wGrow Labs/Why a lab
A fund writes cheques. An agency writes code. A lab does both.
Four ways to get a company built. Only one does all of it.
Seed funds, software agencies and accelerators each cover part of what an early company needs. A lab puts capital, engineering and company-building in one team, under one build plan.
| Seed fund | Software agency | Accelerator | wGrow Labs | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Seed capital | Yes | No | Small, fixed | Up to SGD 500K, tied to milestones |
| Builds the product | No | For a fee | No | Yes, production-grade |
| Runs it after launch | No | Usually not | No | Security, backup, recovery, operations |
| Shapes the company | Advice | No | Curriculum | Team, positioning, brand, market |
| Prepares the next raise | Introductions | No | Demo day | Story, milestones, financial logic |
| Relationship | Investor | Vendor | Cohort | Minority partner beside the founder |
We work from a hypothesis, build it for real and test it against evidence.
We start from a problem, not a pitch deck.
Who has the problem, why it matters now, and what you know that others don't.
We build the real thing to find out.
We ship working systems to real users instead of slides about a future product.
Each stage earns the next.
Capital and effort follow proof: a pilot, a measurable improvement, a buyer who comes back.
From investing words to building words.
The name changed because the work did. The words we use changed with it: the record of our companies is the Lab record (LAB-01…), and the process is the Build protocol.

In 2025–26, “labs” means builders with engineers in the room.
Frontier AI labs and venture studios have both moved the word toward building, not just funding. Here is what it tells the people who matter to a new company.
What founders hear
“There are engineers here.” A lab is where products get built, not just funded.
What investors hear
A hands-on builder, not a fund. That fits wGrow, which invests from its balance sheet rather than from an LP fund.
The category underneath
The legal and economic model is a venture studio: capital plus an in-house build team acting as co-founder. “Labs” is the brand word; studio is the category.
| Comparable | Who · where | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| AI Fund | Andrew Ng · US | Founders with deep technical expertise plus a studio engineering team: the model closest to ours. |
| Xora Venture Labs | Temasek · Singapore | Deep-tech studio working with NUS, NTU and A*STAR. The closest Singapore comparable. |
| Pioneer Square Labs, Flagship Labs, Idealab | Studios using the word | Studios that already use “labs” to mean builders with engineers in the room. |

Begin the conversation
What important problem can you see more clearly than others?
You don't need a polished pitch deck. Send a short, non-confidential introduction: the problem, your connection to it, what exists today and what you want to build.
- 01
Tell us the opportunity
The problem, who pays to solve it, and where you need help.
- 02
We review the fit
Founder, problem, potential business, and where the lab can contribute meaningfully.
- 03
A private conversation
If there may be a fit, we discuss expectations and a possible build plan.
